This week I am traveling for a speaking engagement. I greatly enjoy speaking, so I am enjoying focusing my energy on my talk rather than my blog. However, because it is now a new month, I wanted to be sure to post something so that February’s free printable prayers calendar will be available to all blog subscribers (you can access it at the bottom of every blog post e-mail). To help alleviate the stress of producing new content, I am posting an excerpt from my weekly devotional, For the Love of Our Husbands. Thank you for being part of this blog community!
Excerpt from the book:
Mark Twain said, “I can live for two months on one compliment.” I don’t know about you, but I can certainly relate to that philosophy. Everyone benefits from both constructive criticism and genuine (and that is key) compliments. I have noticed that in my effort to not criticize Jason, I have also not made an intentional effort to compliment him regularly. When I tell him I appreciate something he does for me, that is nice, but I need to make sure I’m expressing my appreciation for the man he is, not based on what he does. For example, I can focus my compliments on the man God created him to be (personality traits, passions, etc.), the father and husband he is, and the leader/provider he is for our family. This week, my challenge is to focus on who Jason is—not just what he does (right or wrong)—and make sure to compliment what I notice with sincere praise. I’m excited to see how God will show me even more to love about my husband this week, and I will pray it will be a week of blessing for Jason, as well!
Lord, I ask that You would show me more about my husband this week. Allow this to be a week where my love for him increases for who he is and not based on anything he does. As I notice traits about him, I pray that I would be thoughtful enough to compliment him on those. I pray that he would know that I am sincere in my admiration. In Jesus’ name I, pray. Amen.
