I appreciate the stories Darby shares. She uses her own marriage to illustrate certain topics and why it is important to pray over that area for you and for your husband. The author does not bother with fanciful words or elaborate explanations. Each devotion and challenge is short and sweet, making them easy to think about during the week. She also includes scripture reinforcing why our prayers in these area of marriage are significant! I love that she did that! Reading through this devotional almost gave me the feeling as though they were personally written letters by Darby to encourage me along in marriage. ~ Jennifer Smith (The Unveiled Wife), author and blogger. If we women honestly worked through this book on a weekly basis, and prayed those prayers and took those challenges to heart, our marriages would be transformed. Our hearts would be transformed. And we would feel much closer to God. ~Sheila Wray Gregoire, speaker, author, and blogger. I had the privilege of reading Darby’s “book” For the Love of Our Husbands, as a part of the original email list serve. I remember that year of my marriage as being such a year of growth. We were in the middle of some pretty big life changes (a big move, job changes, trying to grow our family), and those changes could have provided a lot of stress and disagreement between us. However, I think, as a result of my praying fervently and faithfully for my husband (using this book as a guide), it was actually a time that allowed us to really grow together as a couple. I think one thing that makes this book so special is that Darby delivers weekly challenges that are relevant to wives, no matter what stage of marriage they may be in. The scripture-based prayers are beautifully written so that they can easily be adapted to fit each reader’s specific situation and needs. This book would make an excellent wedding gift, but it would also be useful for a wife who has been married for 50 years. ~Jo King, Kentucky This is a fantastic book that is centered on prayer. Each day includes a short devotion and challenge, but also a prayer for you to pray for yourself and your faith, and a separate prayer for your husband.
The challenges aren’t all specific to marriage or your husband. Instead, they remind us that the basis of any strong marriage is a foundation of Christ. They remind us that our relationship with our husband parallels that of Christ and His bride (the church), so many of the challenges focus on us as women, as Christians, and of course, as wives.
There are 52 challenges/devotions, meant to be done weekly for an entire year. I love that Darby stretches it out to last for an entire year because that is how we can see true change in our hearts and marriages, with a long lasting commitment to it.

This is a truly wonderful book…a great way to draw yourself closer to God and to your husband. The book gives a challenge, something practical you can do to better your marriage and yourself, and a prayer to pray for your husband for each week of the year. The challenges come with a story from the author’s own journey as a Christian wife. The stories are very real and easy the relate to. I found the challenges and prayers to be well thought out, insightful and, most of all, helpful on my own journey as a wife. The book is non-denominational and relevant and appropriate for Christian wives of any denomination (example, I am a devout Catholic, while the author is not). I strongly recommend this book to any woman who desires to develop a deeper relationship with God and a stronger marriage by daily lifting up her husband in prayer.

Darby did such a great job of writing this devotional and putting it together. I was even impressed by how organized and well-formatted it was! I love that she included true stories and struggles from her life and marriage in each weekly challenge. Thankfully, she never comes across as a super saint or a wife who has it all together, so I found myself resonating with her experiences and easily relating to her feelings.
I also love that Darby uses scripture to guide the prayers for our husbands. One of the things I like to do is pray using scripture for myself, my husband and others in my life, so this was right down my alley! I think there is something very pleasing to God when we use His words to claim His truths and promises.
