This past Tuesday concluded the 30-Day Prayer Challenge. I would like to express a sincere “thank-you” to everyone who participated. It was such an amazing month! I asked my husband if he noticed a difference in his life since I had spent the month praying intentionally for him. He had to think about it for a minute, but said that ultimately he noticed that I was less selfish! Guess that shows that prayer changes the person offering up the prayers as much as it benefits the person being prayed for! 🙂 I loved connecting with women from all over the world who have a heart for praying for their husbands (and future husbands). I am sad that the challenge is over, but now I am striving not lose motivation in praying for my husband each day!
It was interesting how many women e-mailed with me in regards to use of Scripture in my prayers. There are many reasons why I believe firmly in praying God’s Word, and here are a few reasons why I like this approach to prayer:
- It keeps my prayers in God’s will. It helps my flesh remain out of my prayers because I know what I’m asking is in the will of God. As 1 John 5:14-15 says, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him.”
- Hebrews 4:12 tells us that God’s Word is living and active… that is certainly true when we read it, but it is equally as true when we pray it. By praying God’s Word, we are giving the Holy Spirit another venue in which to work and move. He will have a greater reach into our lives and into the lives of those we are praying for if we use Scriptures to guide our prayers.
- It helps articulate the feelings we have inside of us. For example, I might be needing to repent and starting out by praying Psalm 51 can help me describe how I am feeling and then I can continue with spontaneous prayer after that.
- It helps apply God’s Word to today’s society. For me personally, it is hard for me to sit down, read the Bible, and come away with any great insights. However, if I read the Bible and think of how to pray those Words over my life and my husband’s life… then I can see how what I’m reading can be applied to my everyday circumstances which helps me walk in obedience.
