I was told, when I published my book in 2011, that self-promotion was a “necessary evil” in the industry. Advice from the experts went something like this, “If you want your book to succeed, then you have to be out there passionately spreading the word about how amazing your product is.”
That has never sat well with my soul.
I don’t know if it is my personality, insecurity, or true humility, but I have never possessed a desire to post continually about my book or why everyone should read it. While I do, firmly, believe God called me to publish For the Love of Our Husbands, I am leaving the promotion of the book solely up to Him.
Today, He chose to promote my book through another blogger’s review. Beth Steffaniak, who blogs at Messy Marriage, posted a very gracious and kind review of my book today. Here is a portion of what she said,
Darby did such a great job of writing this devotional and putting it together. I was even impressed by how organized and well-formatted it was! I love that she included true stories and struggles from her life and marriage in each weekly challenge. Thankfully, she never comes across as a super saint or a wife who has it all together, so I found myself resonating with her experiences and easily relating to her feelings.
I also love that Darby uses scripture to guide the prayers for our husbands. One of the things I like to do is pray using scripture for myself, my husband and others in my life, so this was right down my alley! I think there is something very pleasing to God when we use His words to claim His truths and promises.
She is also hosting a giveaway!
