We took the children to a local story time and stayed for a half hour to let them play quietly. I sat on the couch reading stories to our oldest children, while Jason sat at a table doing puzzles with our younger ones. A woman and her child came up to the table to join in on the puzzle fun. Without hesitation or commotion, Jason stood up from his seat, offered it to the little boy, and then grabbed a nearby chair for his mother. Jason spent the rest of his time bending his six-foot-five frame to reach the kiddie table as he continued helping our kids.
“Jason is such a gentleman to offer his chair,” I thought as I watched out of the corner of my eye. He is and always has been kind and considerate, both inside and outside of the home. While this is one example of many considerate acts I have observed throughout our years of marriage, I have never made a successful habit of expressing praise to him. Since I am learning that my husband likes to hear specific compliments from me, I’ve realized that I often notice him saying or doing great things but fail to tell him I paid attention or thank him for being so wonderful.
I simply keep it to myself.
I want to improve in the art of praising my husband, both publicly and privately. To help solidify this habit, I want to start using social media to brag about my husband, and I would love to have you join in. Every Friday I will post a photo or share a story with the intent of praising my man for something specific he did THAT WEEK. Of course, if I share it on social media, I will express it privately as well. (I imagine this will be challenging and life-giving on the weeks I seem to focus on only the negative!) My goal is to begin to articulate the kind words that I usually leave unspoken, and if you join me, I hope this begins a social media trend. If you prefer not to use the online avenue, I hope you will join us by praising your man behind closed doors.
I will leave my social media information down at the bottom in case you would like to follow or tag me as you join in. As you post your picture or story, please use the hashtags #fridaybragday and #fortheloveofourhusbands so we can celebrate our husbands together.
I want to be a wife who not only notices the good my husband does but also regularly compliments him for it.
Will you join me?
